Find a sitter

  • South Coast

I am taking time out to explore the country and find out where I want to stop. I am currently on the South Coast of NSW and loving it, so would like to spend more time here, but will consider house-site opportunities in other areas of the country. I have done some house-sitting and am happy to look after domestic animals and gardens, particularly vegetable gardens, but at 65, I cannot do heavy work any more. I have good tenancy references and leave any property in the condition I found it or better.

Although I am on the age pension, I also complete some writing contracts from home. This means I need a good internet signal, and preferably a connection.

I am a single, mature 54 year old female available for house sitting for your home and pets. I would look after your 'best friend/s' and treat them as you would. Previously having additional family members in two cats, I know how much they love having pats, cuddles and attention and I know how important it is to have peace of mind whilst away. I will look after your home with care and respect.
I am honest and trustworthy. I have excellent references, am a Justice of the Peace (30+ years) and have a Blue Card - Working With Children Check which involves a Police Check. My previous house sits include Parrearra, Sippy Downs, Mountain Creek, Coolum Beach, Point Arkwright, Maroochy River, Buderim, Maroochydore, Sunrise Beach, Cooroibah, Tewantin, Peregian Springs, Tanawha on the Sunshine Coast, North Lakes, Ashgrove, Bellbowrie, Manly West, Belmont, Cleveland, Coorparoo, Greenslopes, Paddington, Sherwood, Aspley, Kelvin Grove, Moggill, Acacia Ridge, Indooroopilly, Nundah, Stafford Heights, Stafford, Bardon, Kenmore Hills and Kenmore in Brisbane. And Banora Point in the Tweed, Northern New Wales. In school holidays, Bondi Junction and St Kilda East. These house sits have involved looking after dogs, cats, chickens, quails, budgies, guinea pigs, a yabby, pink galah and a bearded dragon! As well as loving and caring for your pets I am adept and have maintained swimming pools as well as watered and tendered to gardens.
I am looking forward to discussing your individual requirements at your convenience.

  • VIC

I'm housesitting as it allows me to affordably live on my own and have the company of animals plus I get to contribute to others through giving you security for your house and love and companionship for your pets and they get to stay home while you are way.
I am fit and healthy, I do not smoke, seldom drink alcohol, and will not behaving social gatherings at your place - I tend to go and visit my friends rather than they come to me as most have families to consider
I love having animals around – they are great company and apparently I am great company for them to – I have met very few cats or dogs that aren’t friendly towards me
I like to meet you before you go away as I want to know how you look after your house and pets because I will look after you animals like you do. I feed them the same way you do, I walk them as much like you do as possible (Taking dogs for walks is always a good excuse to take a break and get some good exercise) and they get to sleep in their usual place as well – be that on the bed I am sleeping in or on their own bed or outside. If it is needed I am also very happy to give them any drugs they need whether that be tablets or injection - and they will be given just the way you want them given. As I work and study from ‘home’ I can be “home” a lot if your pets require that or I can be out and about
I have experience with cats as I grew up with them and I had my own cat for 17 years - you can't really say you own a cat - a beautiful large male tabby who lived a very comfortable life. I have also looked after other people’s cats.
And with dogs - I have helped look after friends and housemates animals over the years as I have travelled around to many places so I have experience with a variety of dogs – Great Dane, Viszla, Collie and Collie cross, Ridgeback Mastif, Retriever cross, Cavoodle, Jack Russell and other more mixed dogs, - so any size is fine.
I have also looked after budgies, fishes, pet mice, rabbits and hamsters over the years
I will take care of your home as if it is my own precious place – and will leave your home in much the same way as I found it or maybe cleaner so that you come home to what you like and slip back in to your ways.
Since I 'work and study from home' I can move around happily and easily and happily adapt to my environment – I have house/pet sat in Coburg, Reservoir, North Fitzroy, Greensborough, Doreen, Caulfield North, Rosanna, North Frankston .
Much as I'd like to have a long block of time short stays are fine too.
While you are away I am very happy to keep you updated with emails and/or text messages if you like - I use Whatsapp for my overseas messaging.
Looking forward to helping you out – Cheers Julia Reading

  • Hunter Valley, North Coast, Sunshine Coast, Cairns

We are an active. non-smoking, retired professional couple. My husband Ted was previously ACT Treasurer and Deputy Chief Minister. He is now trying to lower his golf handicap. I ended my 30 year career in the Commonwealth Public Service working for Austrade and have enjoyed a couple of short term postings in Mauritius and Paris. We love to travel, and live in a beautiful apartment in Canberra. We have had two sits on the Sunshine Coast where we looked after a lovely dog called Roger. He got to go for walks every morning along the boardwalk at Alexander Headland.
We have also enjoyed two house sits on the Mornington Peninsula, looking after a beautiful black Labrador and a small poodle.
We have both been active Rotarians but not at the moment.

We are particularly keen to get out of Canberra during the winter months and are mainly interested in coastal areas as we love the ocean. Open to other suggestions though.

Reference available.

Cathy & Fred

  • NSW, Brisbane, TAS

Hi! We are a 55 and 62 year old honest, reliable couple and are both employed full time. I (Cathy) am a Senior Accounts Clerk in the NSW Public Service, and my partner (Fred) is a professional truck driver. I also have over fifteen years experience in Hotel/Motel and guesthouse management (3 1/2 to 4 1/2 star properties), both in New South Wales and Tasmania. This experience shows I am very capable of looking after someone else's property (and business), and I have references which reflect this. I also have experience in housesitting, having looked after a house and farm in southern Tasmania. This was a six week housesit, and involved looking after two dogs, a cat and a herd of Murray Gray cattle (most of which calved whilst I was there.)!

We live in Sydney, New South Wales and are very keen to do some more housesitting. We love animals and as we have no pets of our own at present, love to care for other people's beloved pets

We are very house proud, enjoy gardening and love animals (both domestic and farm) and would look after all these as if they were our own. We are very enthusiastic to recommence housesitting, and welcome any enquiries from interested homeowners. References available on request. Thanks and Regards Cathy and Fred.

  • ACT

(Updated 1/5/17) All Canberra, ACT locations considered > I am a mature, female IT contractor working in Canberra since May 2015. My home base is Melbourne where I have my own home and a gorgeous ginger cat called Mr Boots and his girlfriend, Cienna. My house and cats are currently being looked after by my son and his girlfriend. With employment in Canberra, I have found house-sitting to be a convenient way to relax and enjoy the company of a surrogate animal (cats preferred but will mind a dog!)

Here’s my suite of successful housesits (from most recent...):
• Mawson - 27 August to 1 October 2017 - return visit for longer housesit to look after black cat
• Torrens - 4 July to 18 August 2017 - four cats (for a cat lover that's close to cat heaven!!)
• Page – 28 May to 25 June 2017 to care for a calico Burmese cat and a Labrador
• Mawson - 17 May to 21 May 2017 - looking after another black cat
In flight
• Melba – a long housesit (for a friend and not through this website) from January to mid-May 2017 caring for the house and Jill, the black and white cat
• Ainslie (October 2016-November 2016 – neighbours of the previous Ainslie house sit – seeking someone to mind the house and water the garden (the resident cat was minded by friends)
• Lyons (August 2016-mid October 2016) - looking after a beautiful Maine Coon girl and Abyssinian boy (they were particularly naughty together, but so much fun - and have now returned to Germany with their owner)
• Ainslie (June 2016) looking after a beautiful Burmese girl cat – this house sit was through my work
• Wanniassa (April 2016) to look a Pomeranian, for four weeks in April 2016 – large garden with watering system to manage
• Fadden Hills (2015) - one pedigree British Shorthair indoor cat for 6 weeks to the end of October 2015
• Wanniassa (2015) (one indoor cat at night - who slept on my bed and not the owners!! and two outdoor dogs)
• Campbell (2015) - a gorgeous black boy cat in Campbell for a duration of 5 weeks
• Deakin for an elderly couple with a dog and two indoor cats

I have an active baseline security clearance, for my employment, and as long as the homeowner provides simple instructions and contact points for managing animals and the accommodation, then you can be assured of an independent, considerate, capable, very clean, tidy, non-smoker, a non-drinker (occasional glass of wine, only) who loves animals and will care and pamper your cats! I’m a cat owner – I know how spoilt they can be!

Blackout dates are the Christmas and New Year timeframe when I return to my home.

All I need for a minimum of fuss transition is a handover night if this works and written instructions to refer to. Location on a bus route is also preferable but not essential as I have my own car so preference for off-street parking. I don't need to use your car - but happy to start it up or drive around the block so the battery doesn't go flat. Can manage your bins, watering, alarm systems, etc....Other than that, you do not need to worry about anything.

Please feel free to contact me and chat. I would love to meet you and look after your animal/s and home!

Why choose us: Peace of mind for you, your pets and your home is what we provide.
We are an uncomplicated, non-smoker couple who once our (flexible time) day jobs are done we look forward to enjoying your pets and your home. Our days of partying are well behind us so many hours to be spent with your precious pets, including their daily walks. We are fit and reliable and take pride in all that we do.
We take the time to understand you and your pets requirements so that once we commit to your house sit, you will feel confident your pets, home and garden are in safe hands.
Through past sittings and as a home owner (with tenants occupying our home back in Europe), there were times when we had our own sitter, so we recognise the value of having a trustworthy, reliable sitter. We live simply and cleanly and will be very respectful of your home, belongings and privacy.
We come highly recommended because what we provide gives you total peace of mind during your time away from home.
And for us, the enjoyment of spending time with your pets while we don’t have our own is something we value and appreciate.
We have been pet-sitting since 2011. Our very first pet&house sit was in the UK for a lovely family with three cats. We were looking after them while the family was on a cruise. When they returned home the lady said her house had never looked so good, and the kitty-cats so content. We have been in touch with them ever since.
We pet-sit because we genuinely love animals, so we can promise you warmth, openness and loving care of your pet and home. Our aim is to give you absolute peace of mind while you are away on a well deserved holiday. We are responsible, clean and have a knowledge of basic repair, and also have gardening experience. Rest assured that we will keep excellent care of your pets, home and garden.

We thank in advance for considering us.

Paula and I (Geoff) are a retired couple who like to think of ourselves as fitness enthusiasts. We live in Southern Canberra and fill our days with cycling, bushwalking, going to the gym, camping, traveling and playing with our grandchildren.

We have recent experience with dogs and cats, no pets at the moment though and I have experience with farm life having grown up on 80 acres as a child. On our farm we had sheep and cattle for personal use and my father bred and raced Standard Breed horses.

Barbara & Barry

  • Central, Mackay & Whitsundays, Rockhampton, Northern QLD

We are a retired couple in our very early 70s who enjoy travelling to different parts of our wonderful country.
We travel in a caravan just under 9 meters in length and are happy to stay in the van or in your home as required.
We head north each year to escape Melbourne's winter, have done a number of housesits in the Bundaberg Region and would now like to explore other regions.
We are home owners who thoroughly enjoy house-sitting and would look after your home as if it was our own.
Although we do not have any pets of our own, we have experience looking after dogs, cats, chickens and guinea fowl and are confident we could look after any other animals you may have.
Please contact us any time to discuss your needs further.

Hi, My name is Derek. I'm 60, single and this is my third year house sitting. I'm currently in Katoomba enjoying the company of Tommy the 14 year old Labrador and Audi the 9 month old rescue grey hound; a truly excellent combination.

I thought house sitting would be a great way to get to see and know more of Australia and Australians. The home owners, pets, locals, culture and geography I'm meeting continue to supply a wealth of positive experiences. It's also a pleasure to be able to help people get away in the knowledge their homes and pets are in safe, committed hands.

Skills under my belt include gardening and house maintenance as well as pool care. I have owned, as well as looked after many pets; being experienced with dogs, cats, birds, chooks, ducks, horses, alpacas, a Shetland pony, poddy calves, fish and bees (a former orchard interest). I am reliable and would keep your pet's established routines as close to normal as possible.

I understand how important peace of mind is with respect to the well being of pets. As such, I keep in regular email contact with home owners regarding pets and always attach pics of their escapades. I also spend the majority of my time around the house and therefore, with your pet/s.

I am also responsible with the care and security necessary to keep a house safe and sound. I drive but don't have a car (environmental); public transport does the job. I live simply via a connection with Buddhist philosophy and practice. I don't drink or smoke. I would consider any location in Australia - city, country town or rural. Longer sits are preferable; 4 weeks plus - but would consider shorter periods depending on location and bookings.

If you think I could be suitable, ring or text if dates fit and I'll get on line and/or phone you. I'll forward references and referee contacts when applying for positions. Thank you for your consideration.

Carly & Glenn

  • TAS

After many years in the making my husband and I have sold up our life in Adelaide and moved to Tassie. Glenn is an illustrator and I was managing a not-for-profit food co-operative with a local council in SA. We have a food van which means we can work as we move around the state. We are currently booked up with house sits until October 2017.

We love animals and can maintain a home. We are happy to come to some arrangement for paying bills for a longer term arrangement.

If you find yourself travelling regularly for long periods each year or are planning an extended trip please get in contact with us. We would love to hear from you. We have both had our own homes and have been in previous home for several years so we are familiar with the sorts of things that may need attending to and both enjoy creating a welcoming and cosy environment. We are both from self employed backgrounds mostly and have been for many years so we can organise and manage our time well as well as maintaining a home and animals where needed.

Before an extended housesit, we can meet you at your house or can arrange a Skype meeting. If we all feel we are a good fit then we would love to housesit while you enjoy your own adventures.

We are both non smokers and will obtain police clearances for your peace of mind.

Tey-Marie & Emma

  • Melbourne

We are a couple Tey (29, from America) and Emma (27, from Scotland) currently on Working Holiday Visas in Australia. We've house sat three other times so far in the past. Once in Florida, USA, another time in San Agustin, Colombia and most recently in Newcastle, Australia.

We absolutely love animals. We have a rescue dog back home in the U.S. who is being lovingly taken care of by a close friend while we are gone. His name is Jangso and we rescued him from a shelter in South Korea, where both were teaching English at the time.

We view house-sitting as a win-win situation where we get to love on pets while looking after people's property, providing an economical option for us in terms of accommodation as well. In turn, home-owners can rest assure we will take the utmost care of their loved ones and home. We lead a very clean and tidy lifestyle. We are also very active, so if your loved one(s) require long walks, runs or a lot of play we will be happy to make sure they have plenty of opportunity to get all the exercise they need. We also love nothing more than to snuggle up with a furry friend for a nice cuddle and movie.

If you'd like any other information, please feel free to ask. We'll be happy to supply references or further information upon request.

Helen & Tony

  • ACT, NSW, Alice Springs, Darwin, QLD, SA, TAS, VIC

We are two retired, active, music and food loving schoolteachers with a penchant for travelling and enjoying new experiences. We have been involved in house and pet sitting for many years and in many places throughout Australia and overseas. While we have a home in Adelaide, we enjoy a nomadic lifestyle in our motorhome, which makes it unfair to have pets of our own. Housesitting allows us to indulge our love of animals and over the years we have cared for many dogs, cats, birds, horses, sheep, goats, cattle and the like, with dogs, whether big and boisterous or small and cuddly, being our special love. We are certainly respectful, house-proud sitters, with Tony being a dab hand at housework and gardening while Helen is something of an expert at quality control, and you can rest assured that your property and pets will be cared for as if they are our own. We will happily provide you with contact details for phone referees if required.

  • Sunshine Coast

Sunshine Coast from 28th December
We are Janet & Jeff who are reliable & honest people who are non smokers and enjoy exploring our wonderful country. We have been living in Tasmania for the last 6 years, originally from the NSW Central Coast. Therefore, we have decided to semi retire and further travel around Australia house/pet sitting, Iam a Registered Nurse and to support our journey I need to work casual, Jeff is retired and has all day to leisurely spend those hours with your animals and garden. .

We started this journey on 4th September 2016 and now have nearly completed our 11th very sucessful house & pet sits the owners & pets have loved us. We also have secured another 8 house sits in South East Queensland.

The main reason we are choosing to house sit our way around Australia is that we love the comforts of a home and love animals and do not want to tow a van. We have raised dogs, cats, Lorrikeet and chickens with the utmost love & care.

As home owners,we have previously used house sitter services, Therefore we are fully aware of the expectations of home owners of keeping a well maintained, loved, clean and happy home and caring for animals. These expectations are a priority and a value we hold strongly.

We both have up to date police checks as well as working with vunerable people card. All our previous home owners are willing to be referees for us( see contact numbers below). We also have personal rerenences and if required we have references from Airbnb home owners.

As well we are also very responsible people that have been involved in Rotary both holding positions of President and Secretary. Jeff & myself are also Paul Harris Fellow's which is a prestigious individual award for outstanding service.

As housesitters we supply our own linen and ensure durning our stay your house is always clean & tidy and fulfill any jobs you may require. We will walk & feed your animals to their usual schedule. We may go exploring for a few hours during day but always home during late afternoon and evening. So when you come back from your time away you walk back into a lovely house like you left it and happy animals.

Hope you will consider us as your next house & pet sitter because we will ensure to give your house & pets an outstanding service.

Hi there! :-)

Seeking assurance & trusted help with your pet/s and place?

If you are looking for a great pet/housesitter, that's me! I am an experienced 21- time pet/housesitter. I have looked after dogs, cats, fish, mice and birds (also rambuctious lorikeets and energetic puppies!).

My preferences are cbd, Inner East, inner west or lower North Shore i.e. relatively close to CBD, so that i can stay at home more. If located near CBD, would need off-street or all-day car parking so that I can work from home & look after your pets.

I can provide assurance that I will look after your pets and place like they're my very own. I don't have a criminal record, drug/alcohol problem etc and can verify this with a police clearance certificate. I have housesitted successfully many times before and have references.

Just a bit about me:

I'm very clean, tidy and responsible. I'm a mature professional in my 40's. I'm active and love playing & walking your pets. I'm friendly and vibrant but not a 'party' person at home. I treat home as a sanctuary where your people and pets can retreat to and relax.

I'm a self-employed professional coach/consultant, that works predominantly from home. I'm caring (I have to be for my job!) and enjoy helping people. I LOVE animals, particularly dogs and cats, and enjoy looking after them! I have had my own pets: dogs, cats, rodents and birds, most of my life.

I love animals and regularly donate my time and money to help out animal rescue and the RSPCA, I come with amazing references of people that I've met online and sat for and from good friends who I have sat for, one being Mel Scott of Purrticular Photography, you can find her on Instagram and a cute pic of myself in a fairy costume and her gorgeous cat.
I also work for ARJ BARKER from Flight of the Conchords and other tv, comedy, he is my reference also.
I work in promo, comedy and fitness, my hours vary, I'm 36, responsible, tidy, healthy, non smoker and I have a Working with Children check recently as I work as a babysitter and kids entertainer too.
