About
Apparently, the alternative to wallowing in a Mid Life Crisis is to take a Mid Life Leap instead... Almost 5 years ago, I left Sydney to travel for 9 months in the US, Europe and Malaysia, living in London for half of this time. I've been back in Sydney for 4 years, sitting full-time, and (after the last two year's cancellations!) am looking forward to what 2022 will bring - I'll be looking for sits in Sydney throughout the year. I'm a responsible and thoughtful non-smoker who keeps things cleans and tidy, and would leave your home just as I found it. Since I was 21, I've travelled through North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific and I know what it's like to be away from your pet and home.
I moved to Sydney, Australia from England nearly 16 years ago, living in Rozelle and then Surry Hills. I've worked as a recruiter for 19 years but have been working from home on a freelance basis for the last 6 years. My apartment has been rented out for the last few years; someone else paying my mortgage means I can continue to work on a freelance basis. I enjoy living in and experiencing new suburbs, and find myself home for most of each day to walk your dog, cuddle your cat/dog and curl up for afternoon naps.
During the last 5 years, I completed 100+ housesits in Sydney (with 75% of these being repeat bookings and referrals), 6 sits in the US, 14 in London, 1 in Malaysia while travelling. By the beginning of the year, I'm usually booked for the whole year due to repeat bookings and referrals but given the pandemic and people's need for flexibility in their travel plans, I have more availability than usual!
I've looked after kittens/puppies to elderly cats/dogs, administering pills and eye/ear drops, and feeding dry, tinned or raw food. I've won over shy cats and nervous dogs, handling dogs of up to 45kg. I've looked after up to 5 animals at a time, with various combinations of cats, dogs, lizards and snakes, including 3 dogs at a time.
My philosophy with animals is to let them come to you on their terms, when they're ready and once you've earned their trust rather than trying to force a friendship. Dogs are relatively easy - if you feed and walk them, chances are you'll have found a friend, but cats are more independent and it's on their terms - you often have to work harder to win them over!
