My name is Alison. I’m 46 years old and work full-time as a researcher at the University of Melbourne. I moved to Melbourne for the job a year ago and am still exploring the city – one of the reasons for house sitting! Outside of work, I mountain bike, commute by bike, play soccer, and spend time with friends.
I adore animals. As a child, I had 2 dogs, numerous mice, fish and budgies. I also spent years horse-riding and helping out at a riding school in return for cheap lessons (cleaning, feeding, saddling up etc). As an adult, I have had pet rats and I was a wildlife rescuer in my final year in Sydney. I cared for dozens of sick and injured lorikeets. When I left Sydney, I gave away all my cages and equipment for rescuing animals, but when I am more established in Melbourne, I plan to volunteer here, too. I have never house-say before, but I have cared for other peoples’ dogs, cats, chickens and rats (and can provide references).
Because I work full-time, pets who can be left alone during the day are best. However, I am happy to walk before and after work and I do generally work from home up to 2 days a week which may suit some animals. I love being outside and am fit.
Before I moved to Melbourne, I lived in my own house in Sydney for 14 years. Now, I travel frequently for work and to visit family and friends in NSW, so have decided to house sit during the periods I am in Melbourne. House-sitting is a great way to spend time with animals - I do not have any pets of my own, so love to spend time with other people’s! Finally, it’s a great way for me to explore areas of Melbourne and hopefully help me decide where to settle.
As the owner of a house in Sydney that I rent out, I understand the importance of caring for other people's houses and property.
