Couple to house/pet sit for 2 short hair indoor cats on multiple dates;
29th May 2024 to 19TH June 2024 and
10TH July 2024 to 8th August 2024

A house sit for those seeking fresh air, peace and quiet, but close enough to enjoy the local attractions and World Heritage sites, including the Great Barrier Reef and Wet Tropics rainforests.

Our home is located in a Speewah, Queensland, it’s a small rural community with acreage blocks, and here there is a tavern, which also offers fuel and a small convenience shop. The closest town with Doctor, Chemist, restaurants, IGA, pub and such is 8 minutes’ drive to the Kuranda Village. By car we are 45 minutes to Cairns, 25 minutes to Smithfield and Mareeba (the gateway to the Atherton Tablelands).

We have a relative (living in Speewah) who volunteers at the tourist information centre in Kuranda and we would be glad to introduce you, if this is of interest, and they would be your local contact here if the need arises.

The cats enjoy daily walks outside, so a house/pet sitter couple would be preferred, to supervise, as we value our local wildlife and try to discourage our cats from hunting. They also have an outdoor enclosure that can be used when it not raining.

Our block is mostly dry woodland, with patches of remnant rain forest. There’s a 30 metre grass area around the home, which is set back into the block and we share our space with the local wildlife; agile wallaby’s, paddy melons, bush turkeys, forest kingfishers, monitor lizards, frill neck lizards, rainbow lorikeets and more …

The home is a Queenslander style, highset (7 steps up), 1 guest bedroom (air conditioned/queen bed) is available for the sitters and access to the family bathroom, kitchen, open living area and verandahs.

An outdoor entertainment area attached to the shed is nice for afternoon drinks and a BBQ. There's fixed wireless internet and we rely on rainwater tanks (kitchen tap has filter), there's a septic system, so appreciate when sitters can use products labelled as “septic safe”. We are in the process of changing from gas to electric appliances and there is limited hob cooking, (one induction plate), however there is an electric oven, two Weber and a smoker if you’re feeling adventurous.

We need the plants on the verandahs watered along with the herb patch, and to turn on the manual timer for watering the orchard we have just started. We have a couple of auto vacuum cleaners that would be good to run every second day over the floor boards, we find it keeps the cat hair in check. Check mail box at front of the block and keep house tidy and clean. Thanks.
