We live in an older character home with plenty of personality. It’s a comfortable, relaxed house and a great place if you enjoy a home that feels lived in rather than showroom perfect.

The main reason we need a sitter is our small zoo.

We have two dachshunds, Benji and Percy. They are extremely loved, extremely spoilt, and only loosely familiar with the concept of “training”. They are affectionate, funny, and very committed to following their humans around the house. Fair warning, they also believe that beds are for humans and dachshunds equally, so they sleep in the bed with their people. They also are poorly toilet trained so must be ok at cleaning up accidents.

We also have four cats who run the place in their own quiet way. Jonesy and Clara are Maine Coons, and Smudge and Milo are Devon Rex. Smudge and Milo are part timers - week on week off. Between them there is a lot of fluff, a lot of personality, and a reasonable expectation that meals will arrive on time.

One important thing to note is that the dogs and the Devon Rex cats need to be supervised if they are interacting. They are generally fine, but we prefer someone who is comfortable keeping an eye on them, keeping them separate with pet gates and managing those interactions carefully.

The main responsibilities are feeding everyone, giving the dogs attention, supervising interactions between the dogs and Devon Rex when the Rexes are out and about, and generally keeping the house and animals company while we are away. The pets are used to people being around, so we’re ideally looking for someone who enjoys spending time at home and doesn’t mind being supervised by cats.

This sit would suit someone who genuinely likes animals and is comfortable in a house where the pets are very much part of daily life.

We have a cleaner that can come during the week we are away and help keep onto of things.
