Commencing soon

We have a stunning 8 acre property in Beaconsfield Upper with chickens, 2 ducks and a cat who will be staying. The place is beautiful, with an orchard full of fruit, and wicking beds I hope will last over our trip. There is a pretty bush track up the back which we use daily for walks. The house is a lovely chalet-style building with a master bedroom a queen spare room, and a freestanding guest house. It would be a great summer holiday for a family with kids.

What we need: feeding the cat, Gerty, breakfast and dinner. Letting out the chickens and ducks to free range in the day and protecting them from predators by faithfully locking them in at the right time in the evening!

I’d love someone who can keep an eye on my veggie garden too, and top up water when needed. Feel free to host a family-friendly Christmas Day here. We’ve already set up a real tree. No party parties though, please.

Pets & farm animals

I have two pekin ducks, one silkie rooster and five isa browns who have just started to lay. One of the isa's is intrepid and likes to escape the free range area and just hang out wherever you are. Then there is Gerty, our sweet cat. She's soft as butter, shy as hell, but loves to be petted when she's in the mood. The routine is that the ducks and chickens live in a house that has an automatic dawn/dusk locking door. They let themselves out into the yard in the morning and take themselves to bed at night, BUT, I let them free range in the day. That means going down and letting them out of the yard as soon as you get up, and locking them in the yard at 7.30pm (we have a song that comes on the Sonos to remind you). The foxes are intense at this time of year, especially as dusk falls. So this is important. Gerty cat's food is just morning and night. She never ventures outside.

House Tasks

Letting the ducks and chickens out to free range in the morning and locking them up ***very importantly*** by dusk at night. You will also need to fill the duck's water bucket with clean water from the provided hose as they muddy it up every day and use it for more than drinking. They need to submerge their whole beaks to lubricate their mucous passages (it's a duck thing) and they love it if you throw fresh greens in the water. (You'll love it too, as they blow bubbles and bob for the bits) Feeding the cat when you get up and at dinner time. (7pm in summer or thereabouts). Watering the houseplants. It mightn't be as pretty, but I'll put them all in one place for you so it's easier. If you stay a while and want to put them out for aesthetics, please just remember to water them. Garden: I have a veggie garden and orchard, so this is your heavenly luck to reap the rewards, but also do the maintenance. The orchard needs no work, you can just pick what you want. I'll leave what you need to support cucumbers and tomatoes as they grow. Eat what's blooming. Weed a bit if that's ok. Please just keep the non-irrigated plants watered (all the herbs up at the house). There are hoses all on hand. If the lawns annoy you, let us know and you can use the ride on mower, but that would be your choice.
