We require a couple to caretake a large conservation property North West of Townsville, North Queensland.
Responsibilities include: looking after the home, 2 dogs, 2 horses, and 6 chooks; garden maintenance (mowing and watering if required); general monitoring of the property.
As it is a fairly remote property, we prefer a couple rather than single person, with basic mechanical knowledge to run water pumps and keep an eye on the generator (refuel if necessary).
Horses will need to be fed and sprayed daily, so someone who can manage that is also an advantage.
The property is destocked, so no cattle to look after.
I'm basically after someone who can look after the house, animals and gardens that doesn't mind being 2 hours from the nearest shops. Work car provided.
Someone with rural/remote experience would also be good.
Pets and children welcome.
Pets & farm animals
Horses - one old stock horse, can be difficult to catch but food will win him over, another broodmare who is flighty but slowly being quietened down. Both need a insecticide spray (pyrethrum based) once a day and feed in the mornings
Chooks - keep feeder and water topped up. Let out for some green pick everyday, but must keep an eye on them or they get into my garden! Fix their fence of needed to stop them getting out when they're not supposed to - other caretakers have let them run wild, which wrecks the gardens and means i then have to get rid of them and get a new lot that don't constantly try escaping. They are trained to go back in whenever you want them to, so its not an issue, just supervised outside time everyday, then locked up again in their day pen.
Dogs - we have a lovely, sooky Kelpie who will smooch her way into the house of you let her. She needs some exercise everyday, a walk or run beside a car or quad. Gets tied up overnight. Our other dogs is a great dane x pup, Bo. He is pretty easy, loves attention stays at the house doesn't wander. Great with kids, but just needs to be watched as he's so big and no so coordinated that he can knock them over without realising what he's doing. But lovely nature, as is the Kelpie (Chelpie), who is also great with kids (we have two young boys).
We also have some fish, just fed whenever you remember.
House Tasks
collect mail, mow lawn, water garden (have hanging pots that require a water once or twice a week; also vegie garden needs water and maintenance), mow lawn if required, keep house running and look after pets.
